Why our work matters
One in four children in Jersey are living in poverty.
Behind that statistic are families who are doing everything they can, yet still worry about putting food on the table. Fresh, nutritious food is becoming harder to afford and rising living costs force households into choices no one should have to make. High rents and housing pressures only add to the strain. Children often feel this first.
For many families, meals become about coping rather than eating well. The stress builds quietly, affecting health, wellbeing, school life and the atmosphere at home.
This is why Caring Cooks exists. We step in when things feel tough, easing pressure for families and making sure children have access to the food and support they need.
How We Help
We provide practical food support for families who are struggling, giving them immediate relief when budgets are stretched and meals become a worry. Alongside this, we offer hands-on food education for children and parents so they can build skills that last far beyond our programmes.
Through our community initiatives and education work, we ease some of the pressure that families feel day to day. We help parents feel more confident, we help children learn skills they can use for life, and we make sure no one feels they are facing these challenges on their own.

The difference we made
We measure our impact across each school year, so the figures shown here cover July 2024 to September 2025. We collect our data through programme records, attendance sheets and anonymous surveys with parents, children and schools, as well as tracking the number of meals and vouchers we deliver.
This gives us a clear picture of the difference our work is making and helps us understand where support is needed most.
